City of McKinney Unveils New Municipal Complex as a Community Hub for Residents, City Staff

The City of McKinney celebrated the grand opening of its new Municipal Complex on April 19, 2025, with a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony. Members of the public were invited to take self-guided tours throughout the transformative facility that will streamline city services, serve as a vibrant community hub, and catalyze development on the east side of its downtown.
The $50 million bond-funded project, approved by voters in 2019, replaces the current City Hall—a repurposed bank building from the 1950s—and Development Services housed in a building from the 1960s. Previously, city staff were scattered across nine buildings, mostly throughout downtown. The new Municipal Complex consolidates these services under one roof, enhancing efficiency and collaboration for city staff and residents alike.
“We really put a lot of effort into making sure this was a space that could be used by the community—a welcoming space where we could come together for fellowship,” said McKinney Mayor George Fuller. “It’s a place where civic engagement happens and where culture is celebrated. We want every resident to feel welcome and proud of this shared community asset.”
History Meets Modern Functionality
Designed by local architecture and engineering firm Parkhill in collaboration with Lake|Flato, the new Municipal Complex honors McKinney’s historical roots, incorporating an early 1900s icehouse and mirroring the city’s iconic downtown framework. This fusion of old and new preserves McKinney’s unique character while providing a modern, functional space for city operations and community engagement.
“We had the pleasure of working with your city leaders in creating this vision here today,” said Scott Nelson, Executive Vice President of Parkhill. “A few short years ago, we sat in the building across the street developing the ideas and the principles that are now you’re seeing built out. We’re so thankful for your trust in us, and we’re excited to see what McKinney will do with these spaces as it engages this community in the days ahead.”
Community-Centered Features
The Municipal Complex includes multipurpose spaces designed to adapt for a variety of uses, such as city council meetings and community events. With a focus on sustainability, the complex features green spaces, direct connections to McKinney’s hike and bike trail network, and proximity to Old Settler’s Park on 1201 E. Louisiana Street. These outdoor amenities not only promote active lifestyles but also provide a peaceful retreat for residents to enjoy.
By fostering development and creating a space for connection, the new Municipal Complex sets the stage for McKinney’s continued growth and prosperity.
