The Lubbock Police Department Headquarters in Lubbock, Texas, has been recognized by the Engineering News-Record (ENR) Texas & Louisiana as Best Project in the Government/Public Building Category! ENR recognizes design and construction achievements across the country and has chosen 39 projects in five states for its 2024 regional Best Project awards.
Parkhill Project Manager Ryan Wilkens, AIA, said, "This building was designed to capture the unique superhero aspects of our officers."
The recently completed Lubbock Police Department (LPD) Headquarters is centralized in Downtown Lubbock. The site selected for this project further establishes a “municipal campus” in hopes of providing a more convenient customer experience for Lubbock residents. Additionally, the headquarters will continue to encourage the redevelopment and revitalization of Lubbock’s downtown. The 52,000 SF facility hosts the motors division and key personnel from the patrol division. The Records Department will serve customers from this central location while continuing to pursue digital records procedures allowing for additional services at patrol division stations. The investigation division including major crimes, internet crimes against children (ICAC), and property crimes, will be centrally located in the headquarters building. The facility also houses a community outreach team, internal affairs, logistics, legal counsel and administration staff. The communications and dispatch staff will continue to operate from this central location. In addition to the police functions noted above, the building also houses the City of Lubbock Fire Marshals Office. This colocation of the two departments will encourage collaboration and communication during investigations. Other amenities such as multi-purpose meeting spaces, collaboration rooms, break areas, and a fitness center create a comfortable space and one that promotes mental and physical wellness of officers.
The LPD Headquarters is the fourth completed project of the Public Safety Bond which was passed in 2017. Three patrol division stations were previously completed as part of the decentralized policing model. This approach is meant to provide a community-focused strategy to promote trust and transparency through deeper relationships.
