Northern Delaware Basin Landfill
The Permian Basin, a hotspot for fossil fuel exploration and production (E&P), generates a vast amount of by-products, including produced water and drilling muds. Managing these waste materials is crucial to protecting the region’s health and environment.

From Exploration to Execution
Oilfield Water Logistics (OWL), a leader in managing E&P waste, partnered with Parkhill to develop a new waste management facility to meet New Mexico’s stringent Part 36 regulations. Legacy facilities in the region could not meet these standards, prompting Parkhill’s involvement in creating a compliant solution.
Engineering for the Environment
Starting in 2015, Parkhill evaluated over 100 square miles of land in Lea and Eddy Counties, eventually selecting a site on NM 128. After securing an operational permit, Parkhill developed a facility capable of handling liquid and semi-solid drilling fluids, using innovative techniques to separate and dry the materials for safe disposal in a double composite lined landfill.

Exceeding Expectations
Parkhill and OWL worked together throughout the project’s development, from initial site identification to the simultaneous construction of complex components. The result is an environmentally sound and cost-effective facility that exceeded OWL’s expectations. Once operational, the facility quickly attracted a flood of customers, proving the success of this pioneering approach to E&P waste management.
