Abilene ISD — Dyess Elementary
After delivering Abilene ISD’s 2013 bond program $2.3 million under budget, Parkhill was once again selected in 2018 to design a replacement for Dyess Elementary, located next to Dyess Air Force Base. Parkhill’s experience with Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools made them the ideal partner for this project, ensuring the school met 21st-century learning specifications tailored for military-dependent students.

Budget Success
The design process was community-driven, involving teachers, administrators, military leaders, and service-connected parents. Together, they crafted a space that honors military history and service while providing top-tier educational facilities. The 104,970-square-foot school, completed within its $21.06 million budget, blends innovation with simplicity, making effective use of available funds. The success of the budget management allowed Abilene ISD to add $537,000 in additional scope, enhancing the project further.
Security Redefined
Opened in 2021, Dyess Elementary now stands as a symbol of collaboration and service, providing an inspiring learning environment for military families and the broader community.
