ACU Musical Theater

Reviving the Stage Makes Theater a Central Part of Campus Life Again

After decades of hosting the Abilene Christian University’s Homecoming Musical off campus, the goal was clear—bring the iconic event back home. Parkhill explored the options, from renovating an aging auditorium to building a new theater, before choosing to restore the historic Cullen Auditorium, now named Pat Boone Theater. Originally completed by Parkhill in 1979, the venue had the perfect size, location, and potential to once again be the heart of ACU’s campus.

A Modern Stage for Storied Tradition

Significant upgrades include a new entry plaza with terraced seating, a 1,300-square-foot grand lobby addition displaying ACU’s Contemporary Christian Music exhibit, and expanded backstage areas with modern amenities. Theater equipment, audiovisual, and mechanical systems have been tailored for diverse performance needs, while accessibility improvements—like barrier-free entry, lift access to the orchestra pit, and enhanced restroom facilities—ensure the venue welcomes all guests.
