AFS DoDEA PSMI Facility Assessments
In response to the Fiscal Year 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Section 2814, a comprehensive facility condition assessment (FCA) was conducted for 160 public schools located on military installations across the U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii.
Data-Driven Decisions
This evaluation mirrors similar assessments conducted in 2010, offering an objective comparison to prioritize funding for critical repairs and renovations. For each school, a physical condition index (CI) and capacity/enrollment index (EI) were calculated, revealing key insights into their infrastructure needs. Draft assessment reports were distributed to installations and local education agencies (LEAs) for review, with validated feedback incorporated into the final reports.
Building for Tomorrow
The results highlight the estimated costs for replacing outdated building systems, guiding Congressional decisions on which schools require immediate attention. These assessments ensure that the schools on military installations are equipped to serve future generations, maintaining safe, functional spaces for students and staff.
