Ellen Noel Art Museum Additions
For nearly four decades, the Ellen Noël Art Museum has been a cultural cornerstone for Odessa and the Permian Basin, connecting people to creativity through exhibitions, classes, camps, and community programs. As the museum’s reach continued to grow, its facilities could no longer keep pace with the community it serves. The completed renovation and expansion, designed by Parkhill, transformed the museum into a destination that matches the ambition of its mission: ensuring everyone has access to the enriching power of art, regardless of background or circumstance.

Transforming a Cultural Landmark
The project reimagined the museum with a 12,000-square-foot addition and extensive renovations to the existing facility, creating a welcoming new face for the institution. At the heart of the design is a dramatic glass entry framed by a sculptural louvered screen that wraps the building. Like a work of art itself, the screen changes with the movement of the sun, creating a constantly evolving experience of light, shadow, color, and transparency. The result is architecture that does more than house art — it participates in it.
Building Connections Through Creativity
Inside, the museum now offers expanded galleries, flexible community spaces, modern studios, and enhanced event facilities, providing room for more exhibitions, workshops, and educational programs. Improved accessibility features ensure that visitors of all abilities can fully enjoy the museum and its offerings.

Preserving History, Reducing Impact
The renovation also embraced sustainability by reusing much of the existing structure, preserving the museum’s legacy while reducing waste and maximizing resources. New technology, energy-efficient systems, and modern amenities support both the museum’s growing collection and the visitor experience.
Designed to Welcome, Built to Enrich
More than a building expansion, this project represents an investment in the cultural life of West Texas. The renewed Ellen Noël Art Museum stands as a beacon of creativity, learning, and connection — proving that residents do not need to leave Odessa to experience world-class art and inspiration. By expanding its spaces and its impact, the museum continues to enrich lives and strengthen the community for generations to come.
