Forney Parks Master Plan
Parks, trails, and recreation amenities are the lifeblood of Forney’s community, enhancing quality of life for residents, stakeholders, and visitors. These spaces improve public health, drive economic growth, and preserve the city’s natural beauty. A thriving park system unites public and private interests, creating opportunities for community growth and prosperity.

Planning for a Vibrant Future
The Forney Parks, Trails, and Recreation Master Plan Update, replacing the 2014 version, addresses the city’s evolving needs as its population rapidly expands. Acting as a strategic roadmap, the plan guides decisions on the location, type, and quality of parks and trails to ensure they meet current demands and prepare for future growth. Objectives include identifying community needs, engaging stakeholders to set priorities, and aligning with Forney’s “Future Forney” comprehensive plan to balance development with environmental preservation.
Building a Legacy
Launched in May 2023, the planning process began with an inventory of existing facilities and embraced community input at every stage. Monthly staff meetings, public engagement sessions, online surveys, and discussions with the Parks Board and City Council shaped the plan’s direction. By adhering to Texas Parks and Wildlife Grants-in-Aid Division guidelines, the final plan—completed in June 2024—provides actionable steps for sustainable development. With a committed Parks and Recreation department, Forney is poised to implement initiatives that foster community well-being and create a legacy of recreation and connection for generations to come.
