Leander Municipal Athletic Complex at San Gabriel River Park
Set along the South Fork San Gabriel River, the Leander Municipal Athletic Complex at San Gabriel River Park brings together the excitement of organized sports and the natural history of Central Texas. Parkhill’s master plan transforms the distinctive landscape into a regional recreation destination, balancing athletic facilities with opportunities to explore, learn and connect with nature. Inspired by the site’s natural spring, limestone formations and nearby prehistoric dinosaur tracks, the design celebrates the land’s character while creating a welcoming place for athletes, families and visitors.

Bringing Recreation and Nature Together
The master plan combines six softball fields, multipurpose soccer and cricket fields, sports courts, playgrounds and disc golf with a nature center and open lawns. Connected trails and gathering spaces create opportunities for recreation beyond the playing fields, allowing visitors to experience the park in their own way. The site’s unique geology shapes the design experience. A dinosaur-themed playground, interactive signage and archaeological wayfinding bring the area’s prehistoric past to life, while natural trails connect visitors to the river corridor and regional trail system.
Building for a Growing Community
Initial improvements prioritize athletic facilities that support Leander’s growing demand for organized sports. By creating dedicated spaces for local leagues while preserving connections to the natural landscape, the master plan establishes a foundation for recreation, discovery and community connection for generations to come.
