Midland Briarwood Avenue Extension

Turning Challenges into Opportunities

Briarwood Avenue was once a congested two-lane roadway struggling to keep pace with Midland’s growing traffic demands. To address the challenges, the City of Midland tasked Parkhill with designing a 3-mile stretch in two phases. Phase 1 introduced a transformative design: four continuous through-lanes, bicycle lanes, a landscaped median, storm sewers, and a detention basin to manage drainage. The $6.5 million project prioritized safety, efficiency, and future growth, setting the foundation for a revitalized transportation corridor.

Collaboration for Community Growth

Parkhill engaged stakeholders at every level, holding one-on-one meetings with developers, landowners, and utility companies to ensure a collaborative approach. The team worked closely with engineers of ongoing and future developments to align access points, utility connections, and drainage facilities seamlessly with the roadway’s design. A traditional public involvement plan ensured that even those not directly impacted had their voices heard. This strategy created a shared vision that balanced immediate needs with long-term growth.
