Midland Community Theatre Lobby Renovations
For nearly 50 years, Midland Community Theatre’s Cole Theater has been a cornerstone of Midland’s cultural life, entertaining thousands of residents each year and serving as a home for local arts organizations. As attendance and programming continued to grow, the theater’s lobby became increasingly crowded, prompting a vision to create a more welcoming and versatile experience for patrons.

Where Community and Creativity Meet
The completed Midland Community Theatre Lobby Renovation transforms the theater’s front-of-house experience while preserving the iconic Frank Welch-designed façade that generations of Midlanders know and love. The expanded lobby increases the original 3,400-square-foot space by nearly 3,500 square feet, creating a bright, flexible environment designed to accommodate larger audiences and support a variety of special events and community functions.
Flexible Spaces for Every Occasion
New concession areas, a gift shop, renovated public restrooms, and nearly 1,200 square feet of outdoor patio space provide guests with more opportunities to gather and connect before and after performances. The lobby now serves not only as a gateway to the theater but also as a programmable venue that can adapt to receptions, celebrations, and community events throughout the year.

A Modern Gathering Place for Midland
The project’s impact extends beyond the audience experience. Beneath the new lobby, more than 3,250 square feet of classrooms and workspace provide dedicated areas for education, collaboration, and artistic development, helping local arts organizations expand their reach and inspire future generations.
