New Mexico State University New Juniper Residence Hall
Parkhill was selected by New Mexico State University (NMSU) to design Juniper Hall, a 300-bed residence hall at the Las Cruces campus. Following this success, NMSU brought Parkhill on board as an on-call services provider for five years, overseeing renovation work across nearly all campus residence halls and apartments.

Unifying Renovations
This multi-phase project impacted 5,000 beds, uniting the campus with a cohesive design approach that modernized student housing. The challenge was significant—NMSU’s residence halls spanned 70 years in age, from the historic Spanish-revival Rhodes-Garrett-Hamiel Hall to the newer Chamisa Villages. Parkhill worked closely with the university, creating a unified paint finish, flooring system, and furniture package to enhance the student experience.
Streamlining Campus-Wide Upgrades
During summer breaks, when residence halls were unoccupied, the team efficiently upgraded five residence halls and 12 apartment buildings, focusing on interior updates like millwork and plumbing, as well as necessary exterior repairs.

Blending Past and Present
With Phase II tackling Rhodes-Garrett-Hamiel, the project blended modern roofing systems like TPO with the hall’s historic architecture, creating a comfortable and cohesive living environment for NMSU students.
