Plainview ISD New Thunderbird Elementary School
In 2019, Plainview ISD passed a $67 million bond to transform its educational landscape. The ambitious program called for two new elementary schools, extensive middle school renovations, tornado shelters, and solutions for FEMA flood zones—all while adhering to a strict timeline. Then came the pandemic. Faced with unprecedented disruption, Parkhill’s design and leadership teams stepped up to the challenge, determined to provide certainty amidst chaos.

Innovative Collaboration in a Time of Uncertainty
As educators shifted to virtual learning in March 2020, Parkhill’s teams simultaneously began programming and designing four critical projects. Recognizing the mounting stress on district leaders and educators, the team sought to be a source of stability rather than another obstacle. Weekly virtual meetings streamlined communication, pairing the two elementary schools and two middle schools into collaborative sessions. Innovative tools, including photographic imagery studies, helped bring designs to life and keep all stakeholders aligned.
Delivering Ahead of Schedule and Under Budget
The result of this collaborative effort is nothing short of remarkable. All four projects were bid on time and construction was under the bond budget, with completion projected a year early. Plainview ISD’s new and renovated schools will provide safe, innovative learning environments tailored to the district’s vision. Parkhill’s dedication to adaptability and community partnership turned obstacles into opportunities, ensuring a brighter future for Plainview students and educators.
