The Green at College Park
Completed in 2012, The Green at College Park is a three-acre park that seamlessly integrates stormwater management with lush vegetation, trails, benches, shade structures, and a large oval lawn. Situated at the University of Texas at Arlington’s south end, this park was once an earthen ditch with a 48-inch drainage pipe that often caused street and property flooding. Parkhill’s landscape architects and civil engineers devised a cost-effective plan to reduce stormwater flow rates, preventing flooding in nearby streets and apartments. They installed a six-foot by four-foot system to manage runoff, along with innovative storm springs to control water on the lawn.

Inventive Design Meets Environmental Sustainability
The Green at College Park features several environmentally friendly innovations, including a biofilter to remove pollutants from a nearby parking lot, a rain channel with porous soil for increased water infiltration, and pervious pedestrian pathways. These features not only address stormwater management but also promote sustainability. The park earned the American Society of Landscape Architects’ 2012 Honor Award and LEED Gold Certification.
A Community Hub With a Global Impact
More than just a solution to flooding, The Green at College Park offers the community a beautiful space for relaxation and gathering. Meeting the Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) standards, it is one of the first three projects globally to achieve SITES certification. The Green is now a model of sustainable urban design, providing a valuable recreational space for the Arlington community.
