ABILENE, Texas — Groundbreaking news coming from one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Big Country, The Abilene Zoo has officially announced its plans for a master plan, which includes an expansion to the park.
Clay Carbajal, who is the Conservation Supervisor, as well as a key part of the expansion team, says the changes will be eye-popping, “I just want the Abilene community, the Big Country, to know that this is the single largest investment in Abilene Zoo history. Ever since July 2, 1966, when the zoo opened on this new footprint here, there has never been an investment of this magnitude at one time in development, and you’re about to see history.”
The master plan for the Zoo will take about 10 years to complete and will include 4 phases. Carbajal says what one of the first phases is going to have for visitors, “the phase [of the master plan] we’re currently standing in will include a brand-new full-size train attraction for our guest to ride on and will include an elevated walkway for you to go through the different habitats of the world. You could see animals from Africa that you’ve never seen before, or some of your favorites from the zoo, finding new homes and much bigger habitats right here in our expansion.”
