Parkhill’s Zachary Garrett, PE, was recently named a 2024 Top 20 Under 40 award winner by the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce. This honor is given to outstanding young individuals who demonstrate professional excellence and are active in the local business community, as well as dedicated to community service. The honorees were recognized at an annual Business Excellence Awards banquet held by the Chamber on August 22, 2024.
"What an honor it is to receive this award! A huge thanks goes to my Parkhill family for shaping me into who I am today,” Zachary said. “I am proud to work at a firm that has set the example for me of what it means to Build Community. This award is truly a reflection on our mission statement that has been instilled in me over the past 11 years."
Zachary is an associate on the Structural Team in Parkhill’s Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP)/Structural sector. As a structural engineer, he leads the efforts in designing the structural system on many projects that help build communities, including schools, hospitals, stadiums, fire stations, and storm shelters. One of his strengths is his ability to collaborate with all stakeholders involved with each project to ensure that an efficient structure is designed and built to meet the needs of the client and community. He is also passionate about mentoring younger staff so that they can reach their full potential as structural engineers.
Zachary transferred to Parkhill's Amarillo office in 2020, where he has helped Parkhill build its presence as one of the leading Engineering and Architecture firms not only in the Amarillo area but also across the state of Texas. He has become one of the leading experts on community storm shelters within the firm and is sought after to perform required peer reviews of storm shelters by many outside clients.
Zachary strives to live out his firm's mission statement of Building Community not only through inventive and relevant design but also by volunteering and giving back through Parkhill’s Building Community Investment. Over the past 10 years, he has written and been awarded close to $200,000 in grants benefiting nonprofits he is associated with, including the Don Harrington Discovery Center, Wildcat Bluff Nature Center, Amarillo Children's Home, and Habitat for Humanity. Zachary has served on the Discovery Center's Board of Directors since 2020 and held the position of secretary for 2022 and 2023. He has also served on the Amarillo Children's Home Board of Directors since the beginning of 2024.
Outside of his professional life, Zachary is committed to his faith and family. He and his wife Haley, and their three kids Emersyn (5), Blakely (4), and Hutch (4) attend Hillside Christian Church where they are active members. When he isn't at work or church, you can usually find him at CrossFit Amarillo, playing adult ice hockey at the Amarillo Ice Ranch, or riding mountain bikes at the Palo Duro Canyon, especially during 24 Hours in the Canyon.
